Star Fish Company In Cortez : Evoking Old Florida At It's Finest
It may be buried on the docks of Florida's oldest working fishing village, but Star Fish Company in Manatee County is getting mouth watering reviews. Located in the small community of Cortez, Star Fish Company was recently named by Travel and Leisure Magazine's website as one of the country's best seafood restaurants.
Returning customers Dave and Sarah Campagna say they're not surprised by the national recognition. "They know how to cook seafood here. It's awesome," said Dave Campagna."It's the best seafood that we ever have on this vacation," added Sarah.
Star Fish Company manager Laurie Jones says it's not the atmosphere for everyone. "People have come in and asked for the air conditioning seating area, and we don't have one," said Jones.

Travel and Leisure notes the small kitchen, cash-only counter with eight picnic tables, and a wholesale market. The online review also notes the views of Sarasota Bay and swooping pelicans.
Jones says she's not really sure how they caught the attention of the magazine, but says Star Fish Company has also been ranked in the top 50 by Coastal Living and featured in Southern Living and the New York Times.

Star Fish Company will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2013.
